PGA to Deflate Pumped up Players!!

Football? Sure. Baseball? Yep. Cycling? Definitely. Track & Field? No question. But golf? Thats the question now that the pga Tour will begin implementation of their own anti-doping plan in 2008 as part of an overall World Golf Foundation policy.

The World Golf Foundation not only includes the pga Tour but also the European Tour, LPGA, the USGA, Augusta National and the Royal and Ancient Golf club. With the Asian, canadian, Japanese and Australasian Tours all signing on to support the plan, weve essentially got an anti-doping plan that reaches every corner of the globe.

pga Commissioner Tim Finchem had long held fast to the belief that there was no need for anti-doping intervention but has changed his position during this past year. Said Finchem earlier this year theres no sport thats inherently immune to doping. Its a sad commentary, but its true.

Is it true? And is it really necessary? Golf has always been looked on as a gentlemans game, one equated to honesty, integrity and good sportsmanship where players self-police and in many instances, call penalties on themselves for unseen infractions. But times apparently are a changing!!

Is this merely a sign of the times, a preemptive strike to keep up with the policies of other professional sports or is there some evidence of cheating that the pga is hiding from us? Is there a potential Barry Bonds-like abuser lurking on the PGAs leader board? The only player as beefy as a steroid popping ball player is Tiger Woods yet hes also the most vocal proponent of this anti-doping plan and has publicly volunteered to be first in line for testing.

I cant think of another player out there who looks or golfs the part of a doping violator. The guys that hit it 300 yards seem to have reached this mark via advanced technology (i.e. Hotter club faces & balls) mixed in with a bit of exercise but even assuming there is substance abuse on tour, you still have to hit the ball straight! And once the driver is in the bag, players dont really need muscle, they need technique. They need to hit a wedge 100 yards to a tightly tucked pin location and Im not sure theres a drug out there that can help with this. And just how will any banned substance help a professional read and sink a 15 foot putt with a double break in it?

The illegal substances that generally get all the attention are the muscle pumping, strength inducing drugs so prevalent among the Popeye forearmed baseball players of recent years but what about some of the other prohibited substances on the list for testing? The list includes everything from anabolic steroids and hormones to beta-blockers. Now I can see how beta-blockers may be of help to a pga Tour professional as they basically block the affect adrenalin has on your body. In other words they make you relax! Additionally they facilitate smooth muscle control which explains their prevalence as being a treatment for various heart ailments including cardiac arrhythmias and heart attacks (prevention post-attack).

Woods recently reminded reporters that nick price once admitted to using beta blockers but said they actually hurt his game rather than help but drugs have varying effects on people so whos to say it wont help the next guy? A few beers usually help calm me down but it certainly doesnt seem to help my game any! Its not farfetched to think that beta-blockers may help someone down the road.

Its better to be proactive rather than reactive so Finchems making the right call here but Im betting on betting on the players and believe golf will not be shamed and dragged into the mud like so many other sports these day.

Dieting Makes You Fat

"Whatever it is that you most want truly lies only a thought away" - Mike Dooley

The reason dieting makes you fat is because your brain is specifically designed to keep you from losing weight. The ability to store fat was a survival mechanism that helped our ancestors survive when food was scarce. When you deprive yourself of food, your body thinks youre starving and your survival instinct kicks in. To save your life, your brain slows down your metabolism and releases hormones that store fat.

Every now and then, when you got sick and tired of the extra weight or had some external motivation such as a new relationship, you were able to deprive yourself of the foods you love and force yourself to do exercise you hate for a week or a month or more to lose some weight, right? But then what happened? If youre like 90% of dieters, you gained the weight back and then some. America's number one health crisis is said to be the growing number of people who are seriously overweight. Check out these gloomy statistics:

  • Over 60% of Americans are overweight or obese.
  • 75-80% of American women diet and hate their bodies.
  • As the $40 billion diet industry grows, so does the overweight population.
  • 90% of dieters gain back the weight they lost.
  • 37% of fourth graders have dieted to lose weight.
  • Liposuction is the most popular cosmetic surgery performed in America today -- for both men and women.

Are you ready to lose the weight you've gained from dieting? The answer to the universal weight loss struggle is contained in a universal law called the Law of Attraction. Like the Law of Gravity, the Law of Attraction works perfectly and impartially at all times in all situations for all people. According to the Law of Attraction, you magnetize and attract to yourself whatever you think about. Your thoughts created the body you now have. Your thoughts can create the body you would like to have. Therefore, to be thin -- THINK THIN.

With the Law of Attraction, you can attain and maintain your ideal weight without dieting. Theres no deprivation and no forbidden foods. When you apply the Law of Attraction to weight loss, you can THINK your way to your ideal body. You can eat whatever you desire. You can enjoy food again. You can free yourself from the weight loss struggle.

The only diet that will ever work in the long term is to eliminate negative thoughts thoughts of what you dont want, thoughts that make you feel bad. The only exercise that will ever work in the long term is mental exercise continually bringing your mind back to positive thoughts, thoughts of what you do want, thoughts that FEEL GOOD. The Law of Attraction works. The question is: Is it working for you or against you?

Lose Weight, Gain Back Your Life 2

Losing weight has nothing to do with will power or lack of. Fanatical Dieting, Emotional eating and Conditioning are the 3 most common patterns for obesity. I have mentioned in past articles of a highly successful technique that I use with clients and in my workshops. Remembering that all you need do is to DO IT!

It often works where nothing else will, usually rapid, long lasting and gentle, no drugs or equipment involved, easily learned by anyone and can be self applied. As Emotional eating is the second most proven reason for obesity, I think this should be the first place to start, and it may well then work on fanatical dieting and conditioning.

The method is EMOTIONAL freedom TECHNIQUE, made of a set up, basic recipe and Affirmation Statement.

THE SETUP

The most important part of the technique is the setup. To do this we say an affirmation whilst tapping or rubbing a particular spot. For the purpose of this exercise I am going to show you the karate chop set up. If you have a look at your hand, palm facing you, look at the side of the hand from the top of the pinky finger down to the wrist. Just above the wrist is a flesh part where one would normally do a karate chophave you found it. If so this is the area you will tap using your pointer and middle fingers. Okso now that we have all of that out of the way I want you to tap you karate spot for practice.

BASIC recipe - The Meridians

The meridians are as follow, try and find it on your body as I mention it. Practice a little so you become familiar with them.
1. Eye Brow this is the beginning of the eyebrow above the nose
2. Side of Eye this can be found the bone at the end of the eyebrow
3. Under Eye on the cheekbone under the eye
4. Under Nose- under the nose above the top lip
5. Chin the crevasse between the lower lip and the chin
6. Collar bone just under the collar bone
7. Armpit halfway down under the armpit
8. Thumb under the nail of the thumb
9. Pointer finger bottom side of the nail facing the thumb
10. Middle finger - bottom side of the nail facing the thumb
11. Little finger - bottom side of the nail facing the thumb
Repeat 1 to 7

Whilst tapping your karate spot as mentioned above you say an affirmation as listed below.

Using the Emotional freedom Technique:

* SET UP followed by the statements below

* BASIC recipe

* AFFIRMATION STATEMENT

Then repeat the exercise again for each statement. You may feel you dont need to do some of the statements, however, experience has shown me from workshop participants and private clients that undertaking each one will be of great benefit. You will see that all statements starts with Even though.and ends with I deeply and completely accept myself or similar, add this ending where done is provided.
